Death Penalty, DNA Evidence, and the Innocent Convict

An honorably discharged Marine, Kirk Bloodsworth is the first person in the United States to be exonerated from death row based on DNA testing. In 1984, he was arrested and sentenced to death for the rape and murder of nine-year-old Dawn Hamilton. After eight years on death row, he was exonerated and ever since he has dedicated his life to addressing wrongful convictions. He is currently the Executive Director of Witness to Innocence.

SAMUEL J. LEVINE

Samuel Levine is the Professor of Law and Director of the Jewish Law Institute at Touro Law Center faculty. He has published more than 40 law review articles in the areas of legal ethics, criminal law, law and religion, Jewish law, and constitutional law. He is described in the pages of the Notre Dame Law Review as “one of the leading legal-ethics and professional-responsibility scholars of his generation.”
